There are two inherent primary functions of a formalized RYLA Alumni group: 1) To assist and eventually be responsible for the organization and execution of Camp RYLA in District 5810 2) to create opportunities for fellowship, personal development, professional networking and leadership training amongst all alumnus of Camp RYLA District 5810.The creation of an organization that fulfills the stated objectives above will effectively maintain relationships amongst alumni and create a succession system to maintain a transitional leadership structure for Camp RYLA.
The challenges presented in achieving such objectives are the ability to communicate efficiently among such a large population, mobilizing a sufficient number of alumni to carry out the necessary tasks, ensuring accountability amongst all involved and implementing measures to secure quality. Other obstacles exist based on the nature of the group including physical distance among participants, generational differences and varying levels of experience. However, none of the challenges listed are so significant that it will critically hinder the operations of an alumni organization.
