The end of 2008 found RYLA’s District 5810 Alumni in Allen, Texas for a fabulous holiday party. Allison Bennett and her family (minus Zak, unfortunately) kindly hosted our group. Local as well as now long-distance Alumni were able to attend, coming in from places as far as Washington DC, Austin, Evansville, and College Station. We were also thrilled to have a sizable representation from the Advisory Committee. The Bennetts* also kindly donated barbeque and rolls for us all to enjoy, while the rest of us brought sides and desserts for all to share. As always, the amount of food on our tables far exceeded what we could actually consume! Rest assured, however, because Mrs. Bennett charmed many alumni to take home pies, cakes, and cookies, and everything else was donated to a local fire station. Several door prizes were handed out, as well as (most importantly!) 2009’s camp application for alumni and staff who want to come back as a counselor or staff/crew worker in June! RYLA will be at Camp Hoblitzelle again this year, and everyone (EVERYONE!) interested in attending is required to fill out an application. No exceptions! The application will also be available on this blog, after a few technical bugs are fixed. Be looking for it in the coming days!
Wrapping up 2008 together was a blast, and if the party was a sign of the coming year, we are bound to have a year full of friends, fun, and food– a year of working hard and playing harder.
