Alumni Spotlight: Beth Digby

Dr. Beth Digby, originally from Dallas, attended Camp RYLA in 1997. The following year, she returned to RYLA as an activities assistant after graduating from Bishop Lynch High School. In total, Beth has attended camp for eleven years, only missing once since she was a camper. “Once you go to RYLA, you bleed it. It is as much a part of you as your blood family. I couldn’t go very long without seeing my true family, just as I couldn’t go very long without seeing my RYLA family,” she says.

Beth attended the University of Florida and Texas Tech, gaining her Bachelor’s in Psychology before earning her Doctor’s of Optometry from the University of Houston, College of Optometry.

As a camper, Beth says she realized what an impact an individual can have on their community. “I knew I wanted to help people. Because of RYLA, I have a great desire to serve others on mission trips and volunteering my time using my profession.”

Dr. Digby is working at Clearview Eyecare and Lasik Center in Southlake. She says the thing she enjoys most about her profession is her patients. “Everyday I use what I have learned from RYLA through leading employees’, reading patients’ demeanors, changing my demeanor to serve their needs, and finding the best way to communicate my findings and recommendations.”

Not only is Beth RYLA’s favorite eye doctor, she will soon have her own practice. She has purchased land–just over an acre–in Wylie and is finishing the architectural plans for the building. In the meantime, Beth is working toward earning her fellowship in Optometry, which only approximately 10 percent of optometrists in the United States have attained.

“I will say that I always credit RYLA for leading me to where I’m at right now! I really LOVE my job and I don’t think I would have the drive to achieve it or the confidence to be successful if it weren’t for RYLA,” says Beth.

Currently, Beth’s hobbies consist of hanging out with her basset hound, Henry, and planning her wedding. That’s right, there is about to be a Mr. Beth Digby! His name is Luke Anderson, an electrical engineer from Wyoming and Colorado who is currently living in Dallas. “I’m so blessed to have found him,” she says, “Luke is one of the most good-hearted and sincere people I have ever met.” The two are getting married on July 3… and 4 in Crested Butte, Colorado.
