Little Laura Rojo-Eddy has made a BIG impact at RYLA! She was a camper in 1999, played a major role in founding the Alumni Association, attended International RYLA in 2005, is an Ambassadorial Scholar, and now serves as an Assistant Camp Director at camp. Laura has also made her mark around the world as she was born in Monterrey, Mexico, grew up in Mesquite, graduated from SMU, and then traveled to England to complete her Master of Arts in History of Art.
Currently, Laura is in charge of communications and public relations for Accor, a Paris-based hotel company, where she is responsible for communications for 1,030 hotels in the U.S. and Canada as well as managing the company’s public relations agencies (one U.S. based and one Europe-based). Her job requires a lot of teamwork and interaction with people in other fields and departments within the company and the skills she learned at RYLA help her to work effectively with diverse personalities to get the job done.
When the Alumni Associate first formed, Laura played an integral role in directing the association into what it is today. She spent countless weekends in planning meetings as the alumni committee helped keep Panera and La Madeline in business. For the past few years, Laura has been working with the Advisory Committee to help prepare campers to become ACs and then help guide the ACs through camp. Laura’s leadership and dedication to RYLA has set the example for future RYLArians and alumni.
Laura is married to Brian Eddy whom she recruited to RYLA 5 years ago. Brian is a counselor at RYLA and his cabin has won the Olympics three times!! In her free time, Laura enjoys spending time with Brian and their two dogs, either outdoors or at their house in Richardson. She loves to cook and is always up for traveling!
Laura has returned to RYLA 9 times since her camper year in order to give back to the great program that gave her so much. She wants to be there for the other people on staff that want to do the same and of course, to help the campers enjoy the greatness that she got to experience her camper year at RYLA. Laura says that, “RYLA constantly reminds me that there are still GREAT people in the world that truly want to do good for others. Most of the best people I know, I have met through RYLA and Rotary.”
