Special Thanks to Vicki Nelson and Miguel Sarmiento!

Vicki Nelson is RYLA’s silent hero. She makes amazing contributions to camp that most campers and staff don’t even realize – unless you forget to turn in your medical! Vicki graciously manages all the camper paperwork and creates Mark and Dana’s binders each year that keeps everything organized all week. She is also Amanda Messer’s mom and the Nelson family has really given their heart to RYLA. Vicki dedicates countless hours to ensure the success of RYLA and all of her hard work really makes a difference.

Miguel Sarmiento is a Sergeant with the Dallas Police and provides security for RYLA. Miguel was recently promoted and is responsible for the entire Dallas Police Department night crew! During RYLA, he protects the staff and campers from everything that goes bump in the night and rounds up any crazy campers who dare to sneak out. He probably gets the least amount of sleep at camp since he stays up all night and sometimes even goes to work during the day before returning to RYLA in the evening. Nonetheless, Miguel is always ready to lend a hand by making the coffee every morning for the 6:00am staff meeting. While he may have a serious side, he has a mischievous side to go right along with it. He is always up for a good joke or trying to scare the staff during scary story night! If you are ever brave enough to stay up late on patrol with Miguel, he has been known to lead great gator hunting expeditions!

Thank you both for your time and dedication to RYLA! You are greatly appreciated!
