RYLA 5810 Alumni

Camp RYLA District 5810 has developed and grown from a fledgling idea to one of the most successful youth based programs in Rotary International. The program has become internationally renowned and has an alumni network of hundreds of young leaders throughout Texas and the rest of the country. This alumni group represents a unique opportunity for the continued growth and development of Camp RYLA District 5810 and the budding organization that is developing within the ranks of the alumni.

The collective skills and talents of this group is an unharnessed resource that both Camp RYLA District 5810 and the network of alumni have yet to effectively tap. This group has the ability to further the aims of Camp RYLA to new heights and create opportunities yet undiscovered for those who have and will be involved with Camp RYLA.  Mobilizing, organizing and developing a leadership structure for RYLA alumni will help direct and focus the efforts of this capable group of young people.

The impetus for this initiative exists for a variety of reasons but none more pressing than the eventual withdrawal of the camp’s current leaders. The work of the current leadership, including Camp Director Mark Healy and Activities Director Dana Mackison, has been steadfast but their service cannot be expected to continue indefinitely.

Thus far, a task force consisting of four different committees has been established.  Each committee is charged with setting goals for the areas it oversees and establishing a plan to attain those goals.  These include the Camp RYLA Committee, Pre-Camp Committee, Strategic Planning and Alumni Relations.  The Camp RYLA Committee is in charge of the activities related to the execution of Camp RYLA, while the Pre-Camp Committee is in charge of the activities related to the planning of Camp RYLA.  Strategic Planning organizes long term planning for the eventual transition of camp leadership.  Alumni Relations is concerned with activities related to retention and engagement of RYLA alumni.

If done with the right intention and consideration to detail, this organization will have a remarkable impact on Camp RYLA District 5810 and the individuals (past, present and future) who have been privileged to participate in Camp RYLA District 5810.
